Nolo Digital Film's Digital Intermediate Processes and Workflow
The Digital Intermediate is a relatively new process that is quickly becoming the standard for finishing feature films. Strictly defined, D.I. (Digital Intermediate) refers to the high resolution scanning of 35 or 16mm film, digitally manipulating the images through color grading, VFX, etc., and ultimately releasing on a 35mm print. The process has proven itself to be incredibly powerful and flexible and some of its techniques and workflows have been adopted in post-production for all types of projects such as those shot on video, and to those only releasing in a digital formats.

Nolo Digital Film prides itself on being able to get the most out of the D.I. process. We have designed our workflow from the ground up to be completely data centric. This means we are not burdened by traditional telecine or video workflows that can limit efficiency and sacrifice crucial resolution. Because of this, we are free to work in any resolution or combination of resolutions from SD all the way up to 4K. We are also committed to maintaining the highest image quality during the complex digital manipulation that occurs during the post-production process. Whether your project was shot on SD video, or we are doing a premium, 35mm, 4K, 10-bit log D.I., the crucial resolution and dynamic range of your original images is preserved throughout the process.

Nolo Digital Film understands that the D.I. process can be technically overwhelming. We can help you streamline the process from managing captured or filmed material, to producing all of the many deliverable formats commonly required for distribution. We will be happy to guide you through the process and provide you with the appropriate workflow and budget to fit your project.
